Sub-archive of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Education (1926-1960)
In 1926, the Ministry was renamed into the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Education (Government Gazette, Series I, Issue 140) and the management of antiquities was included in the remit of the independent (Archaeological) Department B. In 1937 the Ministry was renamed once again into the Ministry of Religious Affairs and National Education (Government Gazette, Series I, Issue 267). The department responsible for antiquities and monuments was upgraded into the Directorate of Antiquities and Historical Monuments. Throughout this period, the abbreviation "Ministry of Education" prevailed in administrative correspondence, but both official names are mentioned in full.
The archival material concerning the Archaeological Department and the subsequent Directorate of Antiquities and Historical Monuments is kept at the HAAR. Materials are classified in this Sub-archive according to thematic categories following a chronological order. Each year includes all current cases handled by each Ephorate of Antiquities.
