The Association of Friends of the Historical Archive of the Archaeological Service was founded in 2008 by then Director of the DNAM, Dr Metaxia Tsipopoulou, and a group of Greek and foreign archaeologists - members of the Archaeological Service, and academics. Its aim was to provide assistance and material support to the Historical Archive for the effective achievement of its goals, to continuously provide information to and raise the awareness of the general public about the history of the Archaeological Service and the archaeological science in Greece, to disseminate the work carried out by the Historical Archive, and to continually enhance research in the field of archaeology. The Association of Friends of the Historical Archive of the Archaeological Service boasted over 200 members. Until year 2019, the Association organised 8 to 10 lectures per year by renowned scientists and Greek and foreign University professors on topics concerning archival studies and the History of Archaeology.
